Bookkeeping for Stripe merchants

Stripe pays out bundled and net: charges minus fees, minus refunds, minus disputes, shifted by your payout schedule. Your Stripe balance is not your bank balance — we make sure your books explain the difference, automatically.

What we set up

From charge to bank statement

  • Payout reconciliation: every payout split into charges, processing fees, refunds and dispute withdrawals
  • Stripe Billing subscriptions: recurring revenue, failed payments and dunning booked the right way
  • Multi-currency: foreign charges and Stripe's conversion fees recorded correctly
  • Disputes and chargebacks: withdrawn amounts and dispute fees on their own accounts, so your ratio stays visible
  • 1099-K match: gross revenue in the books, so year-end reporting reconciles with the IRS
  • Rate check: once a year your effective Stripe cost against the market — flat rate versus custom pricing
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't my Stripe payout match my dashboard revenue?

Because a payout is a bundle: charges from several days, minus processing fees, minus refunds and dispute withdrawals, shifted by your payout schedule. Your Stripe balance is not your bank balance. We split every payout back into its parts, so your books explain every dollar.

Can Stripe fees be negotiated?

At volume, yes. Stripe offers custom pricing — typically interchange-plus instead of the flat rate — but you have to ask, and you need your numbers on the table. The free payments cost scan shows what your transaction mix should cost, which is exactly the ammunition that conversation needs.

Stripe files a 1099-K for me. Why does that matter for my books?

The 1099-K reports your gross processed volume. If your books only show the net payouts that landed in your bank account, they diverge from what the IRS already knows. We book gross revenue with fees and refunds as separate lines, so both tell the same story.

We use Stripe next to PayPal and Shopify Payments. One set of books?

Yes. Each processor gets its own clearing account, every money flow reconciles on its own, and you see what each processor really costs you per month — useful input for the annual rate check.
