Bookkeeping for Mollie merchants
Selling into Europe means local payment methods — iDEAL, Bancontact, SEPA — and that is where Mollie shines. It also means EUR settlements, conversion differences and EU VAT. We fold it all into one set of books next to your US flows.
From iDEAL payment to US books
- Settlement reconciliation: every Mollie settlement split into orders, refunds and fees — per payment method
- Local methods: iDEAL, Bancontact, SEPA direct debit, cards and Klarna each visible with their own cost
- Multi-currency: EUR settlements converted and booked correctly next to your USD flows
- EU VAT & OSS: European sales tracked as the basis for correct VAT registrations and filings
- Chargebacks and SEPA reversals on their own accounts, so nothing disappears into "miscellaneous"
- Processor comparison: Mollie versus local methods via your current processor — decided on numbers, not habit
Frequently asked questions
We're US-based. Can we even use Mollie?
Mollie onboards businesses with a legal entity in the European countries it supports. If you are selling into Europe without one, we help you weigh the options: local payment methods through your current processor, or setting up an EU entity when the volume justifies it. If you already have one, we make Mollie work smoothly next to your US setup.
Why would we add Mollie next to Stripe?
Conversion. European customers pay with local methods — iDEAL in the Netherlands, Bancontact in Belgium, SEPA direct debit for subscriptions — and a checkout without them loses orders. Mollie is strong in exactly those methods. Whether that beats enabling them via your current processor is a numbers question; we run it for you.
How do Mollie settlements land in the books?
Like every processor: bundled and net. We split each settlement into orders, refunds and fees per payment method, on its own clearing account — so your EUR flows reconcile just like your USD flows, and you see what each payment method really costs.
Does Mollie handle our EU VAT?
No — Mollie processes payments; calculating, collecting and filing VAT stays your job. Selling to EU consumers usually means OSS registration or local registrations. That is our EU VAT expansion module.
